Compilation of good practices
This compilation of Best Practices is a comprehensive resource designed to help build capacity for circular tourism in Albania. The goal is to inspire, inform, and empower tourism stakeholders, providing successful models that support both training and policy development.
Our Approach
Our selection of best practices is based on a detailed initial assessment. We first mapped the key circular economy challenges specific to the Albanian tourism sector. This foundational work included extensive desk research, stakeholder consultations, and a survey of educators and tourism professionals, including businesses, institutions, and local authorities. We also conducted a SWOT analysis to assess the region’s readiness for adopting CE principles.
Key Focus Areas
The practices we’ve collected are carefully tailored to the local context, directly addressing the challenges identified during our mapping phase. They showcase practical and inspiring ways to integrate CE principles into tourism education, business operations, and community initiatives.
These practices are concentrated on three crucial areas:
- Farm to Fork / Sustainable Food Systems
- Waste Management
- Resource Efficiency
How We Chose Them
Each practice was rigorously reviewed based on criteria such as its relevance to Albanian challenges, demonstrable impact, replicability in tourism-dependent areas, scalability, and educational value. This ensures the collection is not only inspiring but also a practical, effective tool for change.
